panagbenga, airsoft and getting old
February 27, 2007yooohooo im back to normal programming!
seriously, i was walking down session road yesterday (and wicked-staring at tourists blocking my way with all their sako bags filled with lettuces and strawberries and peanut brittles and towering walis) when i just realized i was unconciously formulating pararaphs on my head, thoughts and rants im itching to blog about! isn't that freaky or what?
anyway, wanna blog about 3 things: Panagbena, Airsoft and Getting Old (yikes).
PANAGBENGA
as a baguio girl, im used to sometimes bumping into tourists carrying bits of baguio with them (read: walis, strawberries, knitted stuff, etc.). as a baguio girl, im not used to traffic that lasts more than 30 minutes. as a baguio girl, Session Road with a continuous stream of people walking up and down is not a normal scene. as a baguio girl, im used to riding a cab to work while the fresh, piney scent of morning air linger through the open window and makes me thankful i live in a city where you don't have to rush going to work and worry about headache-inducing traffic and rows of people pushing you from the sidewalks and sudden lack of parking space.
but once every year, baguio residents are faced with a tremendous challenge…we have to wake up early to get that parking space we've we've been using for the past so-so months (and even years), rush to the nearest jeepney stop an hour early than than the usual and be stuck in traffic for an hour (when it normally takes you 15 mins to get to work) while breathing killer air from vehicles with unfamiliar plates. good morning sunshine, god i wish february's over.
i love festivals. correction, i loved festivals. but that was during my carefree college days when i can escape from my afternoon classes and skip around town with my friends feasting on a colorful array of street food while watching bands play from one cormer to another while looking for cute tourists to flirt with. aahhh those were the days….but now, i don't give a hell. its because i have to get to work every single day sometimes including weekends and holidays at 7:30 in the f*ckin' morning. so even if i normally get out of the house after 7 to go to work, i have to drag my ass out our door at quarter to 7 or sometimes 6.30 in the morning during the Panagbenga festivities if don't wanna get stuck in traffic and arrive at work an hour late. its not funny. getting up earlier that 6:30 for me is suicidal.
and other than that, i hate a lot of things during Panagbenga.
i hate the filth…the garbage left behind by unsanitary tourists who are used to throwing everything and anything everywhere. baguio cu=ity is not the cleanest city in the whole wide world but you don't normally see garabage everywhere. i hate those SUV's with fancy plates that park everywhere even if there is a NO PARKING sign. i hate the hordes and hordes of people wearing layers of jackets and knitted bonnets with BAGUIO on it who doesn't say sorry when they accidentally push you off the road. i hate that i can't walk up and down Session Road during my day off wearing my pambahay and tsinelas while eating ice cream because if i do so, il be trampled on any minute by eager-beaver tourists.
i don't really hate Panagbenga. i just hate the fact that i can't enjoy it anymore. its given me so much headache for the past couple of days. thing is, not everyone's worlds stops when the festivities start. i have to go to work! aarrgghhh! im so hateful right now.
p.s. well yeah after ranting about it, i do have a couple of pictures taken during the Streetdancing Parade. that's because my Be and his mom (who arrived from manila a day before) had to drag me from bed at 8 in the morning (which is my one and only day off that ive had planned on dvd marathon) into the now filthy streets of baguio to watch a bunch of kids and teens and even oldies gyrate down session road wearing nothing but a bunch of wilted sunflowers. just kidding. im so hateful, really.
AIRSOFT
ive just realized a couple of things why i can now officially say tham ive really become an Airsoft addict.
1. im dying to play. all the time. im always dying for saturday or sunday to come so i could play again.
2. http://www.filairsoft.com is a mainstay on my system tray.
3. i am continiously looking up airsoft guns and equipment/gear at ebay.com and amazon.com or whatever site that sells anything that has something to do with airsoft.
4. i finished reading the whole article about airsoft at wikipedia.org.
5. i just blew 1k for a new flight suit BDU (Battle Dress Uniform). i haven't had a new pair of jeans in 6 months. great.
6. i scoured a BOOK SALE the other day where they have tons of magazines on sale at 72 a pop. back issues of foreign girlie magazines as well as cookbooks and the like. i went over the piles one by one until i finally got hold of a US based airsoft mag that was on sale for 99 a pop. i had to bite my tongue to keep me from squealing from delight.
7. i can name all the guns featured in some movies like Lord of War, MI: III, The Transporter, etc.
8. ive finished all seasons of The Unit, Over There and E-Ring and currently looking for Combat Mission.
9. i can tell you the history of the M16.
10. im always blogging about it.
GETTING OLD
this part il keep short and sweet.
half of my high school batch are either married, getting married, pregnant, just gave birth and just separated from his/her husband/wife.
me? im still acting like im 18. im getting married in a year. having a baby is way, way, way, waaayyyy down my priorities.
i think im getting left behind.
airsoft overload part 2
February 22, 2007so im guilty as charged. been absent from the blogsphere for the most part of february except a post on the last airsoft game i attended and again, this one. im not lazy to post, its just that im really buried with work right now that my brain has practically melted and evaporated into thin air. and just so i can post something new, here are some pix from the airsoft game last sunday (which i wasn't able to attend! arrgghhh!). enjoy!
ps. if you notice there are no captions on these pictures (read: brain-melting-evaporated-somewhere).
pps. and yeah, im also posting these pix (even if im not here!) due to insistent public demand. whatever.

February 7, 2007so yeah, we had the game on sunday at the newly discovered gamesite and we had loads of fun! all i know is that i totally had a blast which explains the sunburn, bruises and sprained hip i discovered i have the day after the game…well these are just some of the pix, will post more later. enjoy!
torch with his AK warming up before the games.
pa-cute moments with my Be. yeah the sun was pretty high but it was still windy (which explains the pink windbreaker im wearing). this is before i geared up for the games.
torch again posing with dennis' new Tokyo Marui beretta…arg i wanted to have one like that.
that's me wearing my new BDU (Battle Dress Uniform), a korean flight suit-something posing with clyde's G36
kidding around with clye. wala lang.

that's me and ate tina resting in between games (yeah and that's a picture of the first-ever female airsofters in the whole of baguio city! yiheee!)
drama lang. clyde is supposed to be falling off the cliff and mark attempts to help him up and im supposed to be panicking but looking at this picture i look too happy seeing clyde fall off…hahaha
well, yan muna…more pix to come!
its all about airsoft
February 3, 2007haven't posted in a week. oh yes, i have several reasons. and surprisingly, it doesn't include me being lazy (surprise, surprise!). hell my fingers' been itching for a week but just couldn't find a spare time to sit down for atleast 20 mins and write a post. but am right here at the office right now and filing my 2-day sick leave so i have all the time in the world to blog about the stuff ive been busy with for the past 5 days.
:: airsoft! well ive been pretty excited to death about being able to play again after a month. although i was a bit disappointed at first when i found out we won't be playing at the old (and rumored to be haunted) Diplomat Hotel, i still had a hell of a good time. we played on a jungle terrain (read: deep trenches, pine trees, thick & spiky bushes, blade grass and an occasional swarm of mosquitos). everyone was there and everyone brought their share of marinated hypertension…errr… marinated pork for our barbeque lunch party in between games. i was so ecstatic and the moment i was finished gearing up i could feel adrenaline rushing through my veins. although i was in my best element throughout the day, i had a scary fall during my last game. i slipped and fell on a trench and the right side of my body was the first to slam into the ground. remember i haven't played in a month so some of the bushes and grasses have overgrown since i last played on that particular site covering most of the trenches that were once visible to the eye. the moment my body touched base with the ground, i felt a searing pain from my ankle up to my hip. my right arm felt paralyzed and i just stayed in there, mute and unmoving for atleast 30 seconds before mustering up enough energy to stand up and try to gain cover from a nearby pine tree. but before i could do so, a spray of BB's (pellets) was volleyed on my direction and before i could move one more inch i knew it would be stupipd to try to run so i just proclaimed myselff hit. i carried myself bravely downhill towards the base and it was then that i knew my right ankle and hand was sprained. but i didn't let it water down my spirits, i survived until later in the evening and it was only the next day that i felt all the pain that's been put on hold the day before. i woke up and my body felt like lead. my whole body was on fire and it took so much effort just to sit up or down, walk up or down the stairs and even if i had to lie down or get up from bed! i was in hell for 3 days. painkillers became my bestfriend for the past week. but who cares, its already saturday…its been a week and we have another game tomorrow! im crazy. im definitely crazy over airsoft.
:: Grey's Anatomy. i never wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. never. but i loooooveee this particular series. finished Seasons 1-2 and will continue with Season 3. i think its the Dr. McDreamy syndrome.
:: went to spa owned by my Be's dad's client in manila. had a facial while my Be had a sauna and swedish massage. it was crazy cuz my Be is so ticklish and it would kill him to touch one part of his body for more than 30 seconds!
:: went on sick leave for 2 days. thing is, been freezing here in baguio for the past week. temp went as low as 7 degrees and people, the coldest baguio's ever was at 6 degrees and that was like in the 1960's! well temp went up yesterday at 9 degrees but i can't tell the difference! benguet farmers are losing millions because crops were destroyed due to frostbite. im dying of asthma and chondritis. don't you just love the cold season?
:: finally perfected my Cordon Bleu recipe. its my second attempt to make the dish and my Be adored it. ingredients: chicken fillet preferably the breast / thin slices of sweet ham / thick slices of cheese / dried basil / salt / pepper / 1 beaten egg, add a tbsp of water to it / flour and japanese breadcrumbs / vegetable or canola oil. procedure: spread fillet of chicken and beat down with a mallet but be careful not to mash the meat, use a rolling pin if you don't have a mallet. season the insides with dried basil, salt and pepper. place a slice of ham, and then the cheese and then another slice of ham. fold in the meat forming an almost rectangular shape and hold down with toothpicks. make sure the cheese is stuffed firmly inside. season the outside with a little salt. dip first in flour then on the egg then cover again with flour and dip slightly again on the egg mixture then cover with breadcrums making sure also to seal the sides of the chicken roll-up then fry immediately on hot oil with lowered down heat. brown all sides and let rest for atleast 20 mins before cutting it up. serve with cream sauce if desired.
:: our airsoft team will be having our first year anniversary on february 24! plans are still being made on how the game will be played but all i know is that its gonna be an overnight event and we might be having a night game! how cool is that?
well its not much but most of the week you'll find me slouched infront of the televison scared to move an inch due to my sprains while guzzling down cups and cups of hazelnut coffee while trying to keep myself all warm and fuzzy. i didn't have camera with me during our game last saturday so im still waiting for sir norman to upload the pictures he took.
notice i changed the background and main images of my blog? i went online the other day at an internet cafe and realized how heavy the images were. i wasn't able to open my site! then PC even hung up! so okay, our company uses DSL wherein the server i think is based in atlanta, georgia. so everything opens up quickly when i surf here at the office. so i changed it. and surprisingly, im happy with it.
gotta go. my fingers are literally freezing up. have a doctor's appointment. have to make sure im up and okay for the game tomorrow!
